Brand: Konkrite Market

By: Pelumi Ogunro

"Innovation" and "vintage" are two words that shouldn't go together. However, here at Konkrite Market, they're one in the same.

Equal parts reworking clothing company and vintage resell store, Konkrite Market strives to provide their customers with pre-owned items, whether they're old WWE promotional T-shirts, Curious George tops, old workwear or even custom branded condoms. What they're known for most, however, is their Nike garments and their customizations of them.

Konkrite utilizes intellectual patterning, interesting color combination and intentional cutting to create these Frankenstein-esque garments, pieced together by expertly curved seams. Whether they create a flame pattern with red fabric or a drip pattern with blue, their garments are backed up by not only their designs but the reliable sturdiness of the garments they choose to upcycle, garments in which have already stood the test of time and stay strong and cozy.

There are so many things that could be said about the way they make their garments or the thousands of people following to see more from them, but something that may be overlooked is how environmentally friendly their work is. Fashion is one of the most unsustainable industries in the world and to be able to take something that already existed and alter it rather than making more waste from a "new" item is transformative and important. Sustainability conscious consumers have doubled in the past 10 years and soon that will be one of the biggest factors regarding clothing design. Good to see Konkrite Market is ahead of the curve on this one.
